Unbale to differentiate Invona voices with the same base name

[csimon]

Using VC 2.1.3.3

I have bought two Ivona TTS voices, Geraint (English Welsh voice) and GeraintCY (Welsh voice). The Welsh one has the CY suffix in Ivona's catalogue and the installer filename has CY too, but after installation they both appear as Geraint in VC's voices list in the TTS plugin.

I can mouse-over the icons for each voice and it shows the correct description for each (English Welsh or Welsh) but whichever one I select for use with VC it always uses the Welsh one, which is the one I installed last.

In Windows settings, I can select them individually. Windows lists the full, correct description in the pull-down list. I suspect VC is just using the display name to select the voice - can it use the full description instead?

The other strange thing is that when I select one of the voices in the TTS plugin, sample speech is played (and both voices talk in Welsh when one should be English, as noted above) but the sample text is German! They both say

"Hello (The LL is pronounced as in Welsh), mein name ist Geraint".

One should say "Hello (LL pronounced as in English), my name is Geraint (pronounced in English)" and the other one should say "Hello (LL is pronounced as in Welsh), fy enw i ydy Geraint".

Hmmm.  I wonder why they decided to give him the same name.  I will need to look at the code, but in the meantime you can switch the voices using actions.

example:

Code Select Expand

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>
<!--VoxCommando 2.1.3.6-->
<command id="206" name="switching welsh voices" enabled="true" alwaysOn="False" confirm="False" requiredConfidence="0" loop="False" loopDelay="0" loopMax="0" description="">
  <action>
    <cmdType>TTS.SetVoiceName</cmdType>
    <params>
      <param>welsh english male</param>
    </params>
    <cmdRepeat>1</cmdRepeat>
  </action>
  <action>
    <cmdType>TTS.Speak</cmdType>
    <params>
      <param>I am a welsh sounding english male.</param>
    </params>
    <cmdRepeat>1</cmdRepeat>
  </action>
  <action>
    <cmdType>TTS.SetVoiceName</cmdType>
    <params>
      <param>welsh male</param>
    </params>
    <cmdRepeat>1</cmdRepeat>
  </action>
  <action>
    <cmdType>TTS.Speak</cmdType>
    <params>
      <param>Siarad yn arafach, os gweli di'n dda, and my name is garaint</param>
    </params>
    <cmdRepeat>1</cmdRepeat>
  </action>
</command>

You can use the VC.Loaded event to set the default voice when VC starts.

Ah, thank you, I hadn't realised the SetVoiceName action looked at the complete voice description, I assumed it was just going to use the display name of the voice.  So the only problem is being able to set the default voice via the plugin options, which doesn't matter any more to me as I had intended to create different listen commands for the different voices anyway so I can switch between them by calling their name Brian, Geraint, etc, and they respond with "Yes?". My computer has a personality disorder, lol! I just didn't how how to differentiate between them, without using the ordinal number, if both Geraints had the same display name.

I had intended the Welsh one to reply to commands like "Translate {an English phrase}" or other situations where I might want a Welsh reply or a Welsh phrase as part of a reply.
