News:

There is a soft-mute function which we use with the commands like "What song is this?" There is one for system volume, one for each of: MediaMonkey, XBMC, iTunes, MediaPortal.

General Discussion / Cortana and VoxCommando
November 07, 2016, 10:21:32 PM
anybody has time to give it a try to integrate Cortana with Vox Commando ?

check this video seems rather simple
https://channel9.msdn.com/Events/Build/2014/2-530

if it happens Vox commando will get to next level as it will have NLP capabilities

do calculations within individual parameters in an action, as opposed to within a command.

this is exactly what I meant :D ... kind of arithmetic on the fly as opposed to create commands to get the results in variables

Feature Requests / arithmatic operation inside commands
October 19, 2016, 01:49:12 AM
James,

since it has been very long time since my last feature request :8 .. I was wondering if is it feasible to provide some simple arithmetic operations within the commands just like we could use maps and variables... i.e. say we can

if A<B , {arth. 3 + 5/2} , {arth.{var.a} + 5 * {var.b}}

support for basic function + - * / will be ample start

this will be awesome simplify lots of commands

P.S. it will be great xmas gift for all voxteers !!!

@Hadood.
Can you please tell me about your current setup with a mic in each room. I can barely get a mic to sound right unless it's a headset and have been doing alot of research.
How is your setup going now.  Do you still get home accuracy. Omni mics are really a hit and miss.  I bought 3 brands and they all have trouble picking up my voice let alone get windows speech recognition to even start voice tutorial and mic calibration

my system is ok (and what is ok is a very subjective evaluation)... depends a lot on the background noise when I speak ... at night when it is very quite the system is at its best... lately working a lot, so rarely at home ... my usage dropped mainly to controlling lights, weather ...
for my setup I use
I use XAP800 ...
open mic is not easy path, it takes a lot of calibration to make it work at its best will be like 80 to 90% of headset mic. and the head set mic, I think, at it is best is somewhere in 80s% in average (of all users).

aside from the PC side there is the user who is a complex variable, accent, volume, pitch, current emotional state, all of these change what the computer hears

with current technology (MS SR) it is gonna be always limited until there is a system that simulate our brains to be more than 95% (even us we miss interpret the things we hear many times). even systems like Siri and Cortana ..etc. now they focus on natural language... but how we hear and how we react is much more complex ... i.e. we can tell if the speech is directed to use even if our name (prefix simulate that a bit, though we can back process even if it is mentioned at the end or in the middle, in fact someone might make it look like that the speech is directed to you but it is meant for someone else, and both we will understand, based on the tone) is not mentioned based on direction of the sound, how many people in the room, the tone, the person speaking among many other factors ... in one words; context processing which current computers are far from getting there.

all of this to say "with open mic, you have to set a very realistic goals and start with a very simple command system (i.e. having one way of saying things that are precise and not close to other commands)" that will affect your experience drastically ... and then add slowly more commands, one at a time ...

I second James, if you need help we need to know well your setup ....

General Discussion / Re: the new InsteON Hub 2245-222

I wouldn't go as far as fire risk. the hub has internal power supply. a component has over heated and turned the plastic a bit brownish ....
however all the other factors today says z-wave ... I have my eye on smartthings hub for a while .... you might want to check it out, as well it have very active community

how long did you have the Insteon hub (2242-222) before it died on you?
about 4 years

Quote from: PegLegTV on August 19, 2016, 02:14:41 PM
was it faulty equipment that caused it to fail? (Bad product)
not sure, it seems power supply overheat, the plastic turned brown at a certain spot...

Quote from: PegLegTV on August 19, 2016, 02:14:41 PM
how do you like Insteon?
I like it, but if I am starting from scratch I will go z-wave. inteon, v. good but lacks integration with others like ifttt. PC Software (HouseLinc) is very limited and for no obvious reasons, ex. it offers sending an email based on a trigger but it lacks executing external command !!!!  :bonk :bonk :bonk

Quote from: PegLegTV on August 19, 2016, 02:14:41 PM
if you have used ZWave before how does it compare?
I did note ... however, with Z wave you have many manufacturers and as many controllers ... Insteon only hubs from Inteon, there is standard, home kit, and plm to use with PC and each is missing few features

zwave tends to be a bit more expensive but with sales it is not a big factor today as before
insteon one manufacturer, means it can die any minute ... z-wave is a consortium of well establish companies

General Discussion / Re: Retrieve window size

 ;D ;D ;D ..
I knew you can do it ... but I felt I am asking for too many features ... so I passed on this ... though I was hoping that one day you extend the window actions with size and move and get size ...etc.

my 2 cents on the topic, I would store it in a map (DB) so that if VC restarted it will still remember the state of it ...

I run the commands, I think I got what is going on ... if I rephrase it; the pause in the main thread (commands with no ++) will pause everything .... while a pause in the branched thread (command with ++) will affect only that branch ...
#12
as far as I know that commands that starts with ++ will run in a separate thread ...

my question if a command with ++ triggered then the main command issued vc.pause ... will the ++command pause as well? I tried to test but couldn't reach a solid conclusion.

Feature Requests / Re: Windows 10 Notification

None of that is going to happen until I move my entire development system to Windows 10 which is highly unlikely to happen any time soon since I am very happy with Windows 7 and not a huge fan of Windows 10.

If it were possible to make a plugin for Windows 10 while still keeping the main program developed in 7 that would be a different story, but I seriously doubt it's an option.

The method I'm using now is backwards compatible with Windows 8, 7, and probably even Vista.

would a virtual machine make that possible? so you use it just to develop these plugins?

Sorry if you folks are not happy with what I provided.  :-[
personally I am more happy ....  your efforts are always highly appreciated, and you always go beyond our expectations ....

As well, notifications that appears in windows 10 action center are clickable ... so if the can be customized for each notification, it will be great addition, as we will be able to define one click responses to interact with VC

@Haddood:  Are you sure you had the exact same symptoms as PegLeg?  You got the notice but the activate option was always greyed out in the menu, and when you restarted VC it appeared as if it was activated (no trial text on main window)?
For the record we don't know if you resetting Windows 10 is related because you did not upgrade VC to 2.2.1.9 until after doing that.

yes I am sure exactly the same symptoms ...

I agree, however I mentioned it as I do not know the mechanisms of VC as you do ...
