with VC sooner or later one start looking for good mics ... and in the boards there is a lot of terms that I could not understand due to my complete ignorance about mics ...
finally I found this, which answers few questions ...
http://www.crownaudio.com/mic_faq.htm
maybe moderator make this sticky or add it to the wiki
P.S. in the same website one can find many info and diagrams about audio systems ...
I'm sure there is some good info in there, but a lot of it is very specific to Crown products. I would prefer to find a resource that is more general. I never really thought about it because I am already familiar with 90% of the terminology.
I don't know if this covers everything but this kind of thing makes more sense to me as a "sticky": http://mixguides.com/microphones/basics/audio_glossary_basic_microphone/
and of course, let's not forget the wiki: http://voxcommando.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Microphones
